Ruby Slipper: Guatemala El Sendero
Inspired by the lush redness of its pomegranate notes, Ruby Slipper is the perfect name for such a bedazzling coffee. Industry professionals call this coffee an impressive example of the orange-like quality characteristic of the region. We refined our roast profile to highlight this but focused on the clementine attributes of the citrus family. The toasty nuttiness of the black tea notes, also inherent to the terroir, round out the flavor profile to make this a truly remarkable coffee drinking experience.
This coffee grew far from Kansas in the mountainous Huehuetenango region of Guatemala. Pronounced “way-way-ten-ayngo," or “way-way” for short, HueHue is home to the El Sendero co-operative. Founded in 2018 by 33 members, it now boasts over 400 contributing coffee farmers. Essentially local banks, their co-operative model allows for funds to be available for farmers when in need – even more, El Sendero regularly invests back into their communities by organizing events such as farmer’s markets, soccer tournaments, and fairs. As usual, your purchase of this single origin benefits far more than just a Seattle roastery but reaches hundreds of coffee producers.
This washed Caturra varietal from 1600 elevation was selected uniquely for its tart acidity and balance in the cup. Bright and perky, Ruby Slipper is most definitely a good witch’s brew. Perfect for jumpstarting your morning routine or an afternoon espresso that tastes absolutely magical. We recommend drinking this light roast coffee on its own without milk and sugar, but we won’t tell on you if you do. Try our limited-release Ruby Slipper from Guatemala today before it’s gone!
